Cruising for Murder

We had a murder at sea this year! Passengers and crew of the Mystery of the Seas gathered at the captain’s cocktail reception for a night of romance and intrigue. I’m so thankful to have a group of friends who really get into the spirit of these parties. The quality of costumes was top notch, as always, although first-timers Tim and Mona almost went to the wrong house—that would’ve been hard to live down.

The story didn’t specify where we were sailing, so I opted to pretend we were cruising the Greek isles. That made it easier to focus the buffet (I love Greek food), the games, and the decor.

Speaking of decor…the photo backdrop was amazing! It really looked like we were standing on the bow of a ship. And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: those plastic tablecloths are a super cheap yet effective way to transform a room.

A fun night!

The photo backdrop was super impressive
I hung a few homemade life preservers and some cheap travel posters
The full setup
Very Greek!
One of the passengers (a beauty pageant contestant) and the ship’s purser
Chris as the captain and me as his (estranged) wife. I love, love, love this photo.
Another pageant contestant and the head bartender
These two were supposedly celebrating their 10th anniversary
The port authority officer and another pageant contestant. Can you imagine knocking on the wrong door dressed like that?
Chris reading the introduction that set the rules for the evening
The purser character was written more like a cruise director…she was in charge of all ship activities
A nice shot of the full cast. We had to rush to get it before Brayden went out for the night…too bad we weren’t centered in front of the backdrop!
